8 Things You Need To Know About CM Punk's UFC Contract

5. It's A Multi-Fight Deal

This isn't going to be just a one-off, but that shouldn't surprise anyone in the MMA world. For fans new to the sport, however, here is how it generally works: Fighters, with the UFC and most major promotions, almost always sign multi-fight deals. The promotion can terminate the contract at almost any time, however, based on performance and various company policies (Fighter Code of Conduct, for example). In short, Punk could have signed a six-fight deal, but if he were to lose, say, two straight fights, the UFC could easily cut him. Most entry-level fighters start somewhere around the 8/8 range - $8,000 flat to show up to fight, and another $8,000 should they win. That doesn't seem like much, but keep winning, and the money keeps going up. Fighter pay is a topic for another day but lets assume this: CM Punk is not making the bare minimum in this deal. He has a name that will draw both PPV buys and attention to the promotion, so it's likely his show money is a lot more than eight grand.
