8 Things NXT Got Right At TakeOver: WarGames

7. The Evolution Of Velveteen Dream

This feud with Aleister Black has been the making of Velveteen Dream. What matters now is how NXT uses him going forward. Will the beef with Black continue, or will both men move on to new opponents? Will Velveteen continue as a heel, despite support he has received from the audience?

This is another situation that shows how well NXT is booked. Many stars come out of NXT TakeOver’s with question marks above their heads, but those questions come from a positive place. Velveteen Dream wasn’t anywhere near the TakeOver: Brooklyn card - it will be a travesty if he isn’t on the next big show.

A few minor changes were made to Dream’s look in this match, and almost all of them were for the better. The airbrushed tights made a big difference, and the nods to ‘Ravishing’ Rick Rude in Dream’s mannerisms could be another part of the puzzle for this young man. He isn’t quite a huge star for NXT yet, but Patrick Clark is well on his way.

Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
