8 Things WWE Can Learn From Other Promotions

2. NXT - Title Changes Must Matter

Okay, so NXT isn't exactly a different promotion, but WWE's developmental brand seems to exist in a different world to the main roster. NXT is almost WWE for the hardcore fans, a vision of what things could look like if Vince & co did indeed learn from other promotions. The authority figure is transparent and in charge, it has a tournament that matters and the matches are a lot more dynamic.

One of the most enjoyable aspects of NXT is the credibility of the titles. When an NXT championship changes hands it feels like a truly important event, and a lot of that comes down to the credibility of the champions and the length of the reigns.

The NXT and Tag Team Championships have an average reign length of 151 and 136 days respectively. These numbers are impressive enough, but pale in comparison to the average length of an NXT Women's Championship reign - 292 days.

This generally means that when someone wins a championship in NXT, it feels like a big deal. It should feel like a big deal after all - we all dream of holding shiny titles above our heads as cheers rain down around us. WWE has forgotten how to book emotional title changes - NXT has excelled at it.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
