8 Things WWE Got Right At WWE Payback 2017

Going into the main event of Payback 2017, there was a little trepidation that Roman Reigns was going to win against the odds once more. The Big Dog was destroyed a few weeks back on RAW by Braun Strowman, and the two were to face off in the main event of this show. If Roman won last night, the wrestling world may well have been forgiven for their rage.

As it transpired, the two put on yet another enjoyable big man match that ended with the right man winning. Braun Strowman has been booked to perfection over the last nine months, and this major win cements him as one of the top guys on RAW. Braun Strowman vs. Brock Lesnar is now likely to headline Great Balls of Fire.

Where does Roman Reigns go from here? Reigns is great at taking a beating and as such looked good in defeat here. WWE will do well to take the foot off the gas somewhat when it comes to Reigns, and allow others to shine over the summer ahead of whatever is planned for him at SummerSlam.

Payback 2017 wasn't a great show by any means, but it was more than fine for what it was. It will be remembered for the House of Horrors, but some nifty character work and a little bit of history means the show deserves a slight thumbs up at least.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
