So immediate was Lana's popularity upon debuting on the main roster (she arguably eclipsed Rusev himself), WWE made the unwise decision of turning her face.
Yes, this attempted turn was far too soon, but the company could still have perhaps made a success of it had they not botched the execution so badly. The Ravishing Russian was paired with Dolph Ziggler, a superstar struggling for momentum.
The union did nothing for either worker, nor Rusev or Summer Rae, who was slingshotted into the feud to give the Bulgarian Brute a new manager.
The whole thing was a mess, and it didn't help that Ziggler was expected to be cheered for essentially stealing somebody else's girlfriend. Instead, many fans sided with Rusev, and Ziggler was instead shuffled off into a feud with a debuting Tyler Breeze.
