8 Times AEW's Tony Khan Was A DISASTER-TIER Booker
1. The Devil
One of the most frustrating, prolonged, and unsatisfying wrestling storylines of all time, the mystery surrounding AEW's Devil character is comfortably Tony Khan's biggest creative misfire to date. A story that moved slower than a tortoise with a hernia, the never-ending quest to find out who was attacking MJF over the course of 2023 and 2024 was plagued with problems throughout it's laborious timespan.
MJF's title run and his period as a babyface was constantly being compromised by a man (or men) in a devil mask. This being the world of online wrestling, speculation was continually rife as to who was constantly attacking him. Free agents were regularly speculated to be The Devil, as these monotonous attacks went on for literally months with little in the way of variation or intrigue.
As this draining and drawn out story reached its climax at Worlds End 2023, The Devil was revealed to be Adam Cole. It was the most boring and obvious candidate possible, and Adam's reasons for turning on his best friend never felt convincing or exciting enough to justify a story this significant. Throw in that both men suffered injuries and scheduling conflicts that dragged this story out even more, and it can be argued that this whole saga was as damaging to AEW's decline during their worst years as anything that happened as a result of Brawl Out.
