8 Times Game Of Thrones Booked Pro Wrestling Better Than WWE

5. Arya Vs. The Waif

Game Of Thrones Wrestling
HBO

Arya Stark spends the majority of seasons five and six learning the ways of The Faceless Men, and during her time in the house of Black and White she meets one of their acolytes, a young woman who doesn't believe that Arya is worthy of being accepted into the order.

This girl, known as the Waif, spends the better part of two seasons tormenting her. This, once again is a very simple and logical groundwork for a feud. New girl comes to town and is shown favor by the person in charge and the established pupil feels jealousy and resentment. Crank up the stakes a little with a couple of hit jobs gone bad, and presto, you have the start of a classic pro wrestling blood feud.

The Waif beats on Arya every chance she gets during their training sessions together, even continuing to beat her while she’s begging on the street corner, blind and homeless (if beating a blind homeless girl with a stick isn’t a good way to get heat, there isn’t one).

Eventually Arya recovers from her misfortune, continues to hone her skills and just when we all think she’s out of the woods, and ready to return home, The Waif jumps her in the street, stabbing her in the belly multiple times (injury angle). Arya tries desperately to escape her mad pursuer, only to see the actress who took her in and cared for her brutally murdered in her own home.

When the two finally come face-to-face, we in the audience think that there’s no way out for the babyface. The heel is too vicious and the babyface is too injured to win the the final confrontation. But then Arya does what great babyfaces do when they’re in a dire situation - they outsmart their stronger opponent.

Arya kills the lights, taking away her and her opponents vision, which gives the advantage back to Arya who has learned to fight without the use of her eyes. When the dust clears, the babyface emerges victorious: beaten and bruised, but also much wiser for it.
