8 Times Paul Heyman Said What Everyone Was Thinking

1. 'You Made Wrestling A Dirty Word'

Of all the vicious truths thrown out in Heyman's 2001 shoot, the most telling was his assertion that Vince had made wrestling a dirty word. It's an accusation that still rings true today, with announcers banned from making any reference to 'wrestlers' or specific moves, instead encouraged to call each match in a 'sports entertainment' style. This is probably Heyman's most pertinent comment of all, especially considering the fact that it's still a major grievance of many fans some 14 years later. In one sentence, he summed up a great deal wrong with Vince's approach to the business and predicted a theme which would only become more all-encompassing in the new millennium. The only downside of this legendary promo is its nonsensical ending, which saw ECW loyalist Tazz rise from the announce table to blindside Heyman and choke him out. Until then he had been on a roll, drawing increasingly loud cheers of agreement from the crowd despite being a member of the heel Alliance. Had he been allowed to fully present his point of view, he could have transformed the Invasion angle, making it a far more complex affair than the simple "good vs evil" war it disappointingly became.
