8. William Regal & Goldberg
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y4IdelJfk2k While this matchup did actually take place on an episode of WCW Monday Nitro, it is still an example of a wrestler refusing to work with another competitor. Or maybe its not, and was instead just a giant example of miscommunication inside the ring. The story changes depending on whos telling it. The fact is that William Regal was fired from WCW immediately following his matchup with Goldberg. According to some sources, while the bout may not have been the direct reason for Regals firing, it definitely played a part. Many believe that Regal simply refused to be squashed by Goldberg, and therefore, took it upon himself to call the match and shoot on Bill. Theres no doubt that the match is an awkward and sloppy encounter. Regal claims thats because he was told to have a six minute match with Goldberg, who had been wrestling 1 minute bouts since his debut. From Regals perspective, his opponent simply became overwhelmed and lost within the context of the match. However, it does appear at times that Regal was simply trying to make Goldberg look bad. Regal occasionally stops selling in the middle of certain moves, and at other times, he hits Goldberg with some stiff forearms and kicks. One of the most telling spots is the finish. Regal poorly sells the spear, and then when hes hoisted up for the Jackhammer, he immediately kicks hit feet back so Goldberg cant hold him up for more than a second. While William Regal denies that he shot on Goldberg or refused to put him over, its clear that something about the match was amiss. Furthermore, the fact remains that Regal was fired following the contests conclusion, and would not return to the company for sometime.
