8 Times Wrestlers Who Wanted To Quit Were Given Championships

4. Trish Stratus (Women's Championship)

There was absolutely no deception or desperation behind Trish Stratus' final reign with WWE's original Women's Championship, despite the fact she knew there was no chance at all she'd ever defend it.

In 2006, just six years into her WWE career, Trish had already achieved everything - at least, everything it was possible for a woman to achieve in the company at the time. Like The Rock before her, the Canadian had in truth outgrown the wrestling industry, and having just married her childhood sweetheart, decided it was time to step away from the business and focus on pastures new.

Completely against type - and knowing the value she'd retain in her absence - WWE decided to give Stratus a rare honorary send-off, setting up a dream retirement match for Lita's women's championship at the year's Unforgiven. The shovels were left in the shed, as the Torontan claimed her seventh and last title before her hometown fans. She retired shortly afterwards.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
