8 Times WWE Failed To Create A Main Event Player

6. Bobby Lashley - 2006/07

It doesn't take a genius to look at that picture of Bobby Lashley and work out why Vince McMahon loved the guy. I mean, just look at those eyebro...sorry, muscles. I meant muscles. Lashley, who was a national wrestling champion and at at one point in training for the Olympics, had one of the best physiques ever seen in WWE. It would be fair to say that Lashley was rushed onto the main stage, having only been in developmental for little under a year. Buoyed by the success of Batista in 2005, WWE creative clearly saw similar potential in Lashley and fast-tracked him to the main roster. Although incredible green, Lashley did well in his first year and improved month by month. A lot of that had to do with the fact he was put in there with veterans like Finlay, William Regal and Booker T, who could work with pretty much anybody. Lashley was briefly pushed to the top of Smackdown before being transferred to ECW, where he captured the ECW Title. The high point of his WWE career was WrestleMania 23, where he represented Donald Trump as he battled Umaga (Vince's pick) in the heavily-publicised Battle of the Billionaires. From there, Lashley continued to fight the evil forces of Umaga and Vince McMahon, before setting his sights on John Cena's WWE Championship. He probably would have won it, too, had he not suffered a serious shoulder injury. While recovering, Lashley quit the company in protest of what he felt was an insultingly low 'Mania payoff as well as allegations of misconduct related to racism in the workplace (Lashley accused one prominent WWE writer of being openly racist towards him). Lashley might have become a genuine star had he chosen to stick around but we'll never know.
