8 Times WWE Hit The 'Reset' Button
6. The 'New Era'
As the curtain fell on the record-breaking albeit desperately dull WrestleMania 32, WWE began bleating that a new era was set to begin on their programming, a response to... well, nothing in particular. In truth, a 'new era' was already organically underway; the Divas division had been rebranded and refocused at 'Mania, NXT had blossomed into something such that its call-ups were now events in themselves, and AJ Styles had broke the TNA taboo the previous January with a spectacular Royal Rumble debut.
Effectively, the ingredients were already mixed, and WWE just needed to switch on the oven. The New Era proper began in earnest with the reintroduction of the brand split once SmackDown began airing live on Tuesdays. A show that had effectively become superfluous was suddenly infused with fresh relevance, and multiple separate - and necessarily hideous - titles soon followed.
