8 Times WWE Went Scottish

3. Drew McIntyre

Poor Drew, poor poor Drew. Well, don't pity him too much, as the artist now (and previously) known as Drew Galloway has carved out a pretty great career for himself, taking his Ayrshire hard-case character around the world with tremendous success, something many in the wrestling world already knew he would. WWE even said it. No, they literally said it. Vince McMahon made a rare appearance on SmackDown to announce Drew as his own personal signing and "future WWE Champion".

A casualty of the John Laurinaitis era, McIntyre was given token Intercontinental and Tag Title runs whilst bullying Teddy Long (but who hasn't done that?) and a brooding highland indie theme to match his facials which could only generously be described as "slightly miffed". In like a lion and out like a lamb, even the sliver of heritage and depth they applied to his character (St. Andrew's flag tights... that's it) soon disappeared as he migrated into a sub-Del Amitri rockstar in Heath Slater's three man band.

Three became one when McIntyre and bandmate Jinder Mahal were released, as a "future WWE champion" left the company as little more than a footnote. As a depressing side note for Scottish fans, a forgotten early chapter of Drew's WWE run was as a plucky babyface who was apparently such a great guy because he wanted to become an American citizen instead. Because remember, there's no purity in a blue and white flag, unless there's some red on it as well.
