8 Ups & 1 Down From AEW Dynamite (29 March - Review)
4. A KILLER Post-Match Angle
When a lot of people complained (in good faith) that the storytelling that drove Revolution was lacklustre by AEW's standards, Tony Khan took that personally.
Double Or Nothing promises something fantastic, even if fans don't quite know what that something is yet. A unit of the Elite in some form or other versus the Blackpool Combat Club in Anarchy In The Arena II feels likely, and the build towards that took a shocking, incredibly well-executed turn in the Omega Vs. Cobb post-match.
With Omega's friends and old frenemies laid out - another cracking, well thought-out detail - the BCC decked him. Bryan Danielson made his sensational return in a brilliant twist. The explanation is guaranteed to make sense. Give it a week.
After cutting the most heart-wrenching babyface speech of his life on the post-Revolution Dynamite - and this is a man who was once forced to retire on live television - Danielson turned heel after first feigning to help Omega. Omega wasn't a dope for falling for it, either: it had been established that his head is all over the shop, and Danielson and his BCC stablemates haven't been on the same wavelength since November.
The way he orchestrated the anticipation of the turn was genius. The fans sprouted en masse into a reaction and made that inimitable rush of an "Ooooh...." sound as the Dragon readied to strike Omega with the Busaiku knee. And boy did he f*ckin' strike him. He cleaned his clock. This one beat of physical action was actually better than their all-timer of a match at Grand Slam.
Mystery! Swerves! Deft, dovetailing storytelling!
All leading to at least one dream match!
