8 Ups & 2 Downs From AEW Dark (Nov 26)

2. Spotlight On Shanna

Effectively a substitute for From Undesirable to Undeniable in Cody's televised absence, AEW presented a fresh new interview/video package with Shanna on last night's Dark.

It was awesome. On par with some of WWE's best work in this department, it was introduced as "a story of hard work, determination, and perseverance," and unfolded as such. The Portuguese wrestler recounted a journey that started with her falling in love with WWE at a young age, relocating to France to greater exposure, becoming the first Portugal native to win a championship in Japan, and her darkest year - 2018.

Turned down by WWE after several promises of a contract, Shanna ended up working a TNA Xplosion show in the United Kingdom, but was literally informed she was "too fat" to be signed. "The camera adds 10lbs," she was told.

A spiral of depression, eating disorders, and conflicts at home followed. She decided to retire. Then, she picked up the phone. Kenny Omega was on the other end, she was getting an AEW contract, and she'd become undeniable, meaning nobody could ever take away everything she'd worked for.

This was a great showcase for a wrestler who has had nothing in the way of character development so far, and should really be replayed on Dynamite. People are going to fall in love with Shanna as a babyface.
