8 Ups & 2 Downs From AEW Dynamite: Fyter Fest Night 2 (Jul 8)

7. Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D Appreciation Slide

Big Swole Britt Baker
AEW

You know what's fantastic about Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D?

There are levels to just how much of an obnoxious egotist the character is. She has a catchphrase, but she doesn't rely on it. She's a great promo, but she doesn't just have to tell you how arrogant she is, even if she rather enjoys it. She will, like the best storytellers, show it.

In this perfect bit - another maximised-minutes symphony - she again passed a note to Tony Schiavone, who plays the long-suffering role incredibly well, but is too wholesome to suffer, directing the heat towards Baker like an oxy-acetylene torch.

In the note, she exclaimed - interrupting the broadcast that is lesser than her in the process - that Hangman Page's pyro caused her significant burns. That was total b*llocks, and total hyperbole, and the hilarious implication is that Page should simply move or outright abandon his pyro, lest this happen again. Baker's safety and mere presence is more important than the spectacle of a Champion's entrance, even though he sort of has to be there, and she doesn't.

Later in the night, her economic programme with Big Swole continued. Swole returned after being served and kicked out to throw one (1) scrunched up piece of garbage at "Reba". Reba's hand lightly deflected onto Britt's face. Baker sold her nose as if it was broken, which was funny enough in itself, but even funnier when you recall that she actually broke it a few months back. The audience knows her reaction to be bullsh*t twice over. Layers.

Baker feigning pain was so terrifically annoying that it made you want to see Swole have a real go down the line.
