8 Ups & 3 Downs From AEW Dynamite (6 April)
4. Waaaaaaaaaardlow
This week's Wardlow angle was similar to last week's in that the big man hit the arena during a match, went on the warpath, knocked several security guards down on his quest to get at MJF, and commanded a gigantic response while MJF sold panic from the commentary booth. It was even more effective than last week's for the Goldberg-esque "WAAAAAARDLOW!" chants that run out in anticipation of Max's former bodyguard finally getting his hands on the meddling Dynamite Diamond Ring holder.
And the window dressing made it even better.
Shawn Spears vs. Shawn Dean was an opportunity for Spears to nuzzle up to MJF, who was technically "defeated" by Dean when CM Punk attacked 'The Captain' in their singles match a few weeks ago, giving him the W and putting a 1 in MJF's L column. In complete control of the match, Spears, the perfect banana skin guy, was rolled up and embarrassed.
MJF vowed revenge on Dean later in the evening, challenging him for next week. Wardlow looked like a force of nature restrained only by sheer numbers once again. Spears, meanwhile, was a total stooge - something he does better than almost anybody.
