8 Ups & 3 Downs From AEW Dynamite (Dec 9)

Downs...

3. Omega & Callis Run It Back

Kenny Omega Don Callis
AEW

Kenny Omega and Don Callis' promo segment could be considered an Up if it were evaluated in a bubble. The duo weren't as on point as they were on Tuesday night but still played their parts well, from the big helicopter arrival to the promos themselves. A couple of issues, though:-

1. Omega and Callis said little here that wasn't already covered on Impact. Callis' promo, in particular, was a CliffsNotes version of his excellent Impact rant, as he divulged the years of planning that went into Kenny's AEW World Title heist. Omega followed in a similar fashion, saying it was the One-Winged Angel that felled Jon Moxley, not the microphone. Goodbye and goodnight. Bang.

2. This was supposed to be a "big announcement", as advertised before the show, but Callis cut Omega off and the duo left before making said announcement. Thus. a bait and switch. Extremely disappointing, as fans have been conditioned to expect better from AEW, with the failure to deliver putting heat on creative, not the talent.

If you watched the Impact segment, you can skip this, 100%.

You should never be able to say that about a hyped-up, pre-advertised segment featuring a red-hot World Champion.
