8 Ups & 3 Downs From AEW Dynamite (Nov 18)
2. Effortless Women's Division Dovetailing
Thunder Rosa and Serena Deeb's first AEW match was strong. Their UWN rematch, in which Deeb took Rosa's NWA Women's Title, was even stronger by all accounts, meaning expectations were high for the third and seemingly final clash.
It delivered.
The opening lockups and grappling exchanges were crisp, snug, and had the women working hard for every opening. Suitably stiff strikes opened things up before Deeb started targeting her opponent's legs, leaving the former champion hobbling around at points. Adrenaline powered Thunder Rosa through this clear hindrance, though Serena's surgery was precise.
Britt Baker's interference was very well-played. Reba shouting and screaming at ringside allowed the good doctor to blast Rosa, dropping her on the ramp. This didn't lead directly to the finish, but left the challenger at a clear disadvantage as she fought valiantly towards the end, eventually falling to a double underhook facebuster.
A wild, heated brawl between Rosa and Baker followed the match. It was as well-played as the bout itself and leads nicely into AEW's next big women's bout outwith the title scene. The division desperately needs feuds and storylines beneath World Championship level and if the quality of the brawl is anything to go by, this one's gonna hit the mark.
