8 Ups & 3 Downs From AEW Dynamite (Sep 23)
Ups...
8. FTR Change The Rules
Tully Blanchard is a powerful man capable of rewriting AEW's rulebook, having announced that the days of 60-minute title matches were over in the tag division. Now, FTR would defend their belts only in 20-Minute Brushes with Greatness, with the former Horseman forging an agreement decreeing Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler will be declared the winners in the event of a draw.
Best Friends, the natural number one contenders, came out after being called glorified backyarders, challenging FTR to an impromptu title fight. Cash and Dax geared up, teasing the fight, but bailed, prolonging the gratification.
Where did Blanchard's power come from? This wasn't explained, though he's exactly the kind of slippery customer one could imagine talking Tony Khan into such terms, given his character and history. His promo was strong. This is the logical Tag Team Title feud following Best Friends' win over Santana and Ortiz and AEW was right to not pull the trigger on it straight away, with FTR bailing out.
