8 Ups & 3 Downs From WWE Raw (16 Sept - Results & Review)
2. A Blistering Women’s Match
If Natalya versus Zoey Stark was a bathroom break match, Bianca Belair versus Iyo Sky was a “hold it in, put down your phone and don’t blink” match.
Belair and Sky (a late replacement for the still-injured Kairi Sane) tore the house down on Raw with an energetic, full-speed match that ended with a shocking result. The two went through a lengthy series of exchanges that ended in a stalemate, only for the two to then tear into each other with their usual repertoire.
The high point came when Bianca hoisted Iyo up for a suplex on the floor, then marched up the steps – while still holding Sky vertical – and deposited her back in the ring. Belair went for a 450 splash which hit knees. A Sky moonsault was countered to a KOD, which Iyo reversed to a small package for the surprise clean win.
Tremendous match, and it did more to build anticipation for their eventual tag title match than the foursome’s backstage interactions in recent weeks.
