8 Ups & 4 Downs For AEW Collision (May 18 - Results & Review)
2. Did We Really Need This?
Clearly, the point of Nick Wayne vs. Jack Carthweel was done in order to whet the appetite for Wayne facing Swerve Strickland on Dynamite - complete with Nick hitting Swerve's House Call for the win - but did we really need to see this?
Given how we've already been refreshed several times on the history between Wayne and Strickland, would their match on Wednesday feel any less anticipated if this Collision bout didn't happen? The five minutes of cumulative TV time given to this match and an earlier backstage spot with Wayne, Christian Cage, Mother Wayne, and Luchasaurus could've been spent better elsewhere here.
Instead of the Patriarchy stuff, how about that time be used for a second women's match? Or what about giving a little more time to Bryan Keith and Beefcake Boulder?
As mentioned, there was an obvious point to Nick Wayne defeating Jack Carthweel, especially in the way he did so, but this is the sort of material that would've made zero difference to the wider story if it was scrapped from the Collision runsheet.
