8 Ups & 4 Downs From AEW Dynamite (May 20)

Downs...

4. A Copy/Paste Brawl

The build to Double Or Nothing's Casino Ladder Match concluded with a boring WWE-style copy-and-paste brawl, the likes of which we've seen both a thousand multi-person bouts in the past - and this one was far from exceptional.

Frankie Kazarian and Scorpio Sky toppled Kip Sabian's ladder, meaning there were five participants out after Rey Fenix vs. Orange Cassidy. Colt Cabana, Jimmy Havoc, and Best Friends all got involved, and the wrestlers took it in turns to dive on each other from the ring to the outside. The first of these spots was particularly nasty. The catchers spent a good 10-15 seconds visibly positioning themselves for the dive before Fenix undershot, his legs the only part of his body that made contact with the wrestlers. His torso hit the ground hard.

Fenix was fortunately okay, walking away from the situation of his own volition, but this felt like a lazy formula to use and it wasn't executed in any kind of interesting way, which may have saved it.
