8 Ups & 4 Downs From AEW Dynamite (May 20)

2. Fake News

Shawn Spears absolutely sucks
AEW

Shawn Spears' fake news segment looked nice and was based in logic. 'The Chairman' remains obsessed with Cody, so he's now going after his brother, Dustin, to get to him. The tactic fits the storyline, even if it makes Spears seem a little desperate.

That's about it as far as compliment go, as the rest of this didn't work. Spears' faux newscaster bit didn't hit. He has a slither of charisma but not that kind that works in this setting, with his insincerity when pouring sympathy on the ageing veteran particularly unconvincing. More than that, ripping on the guy for his past addictions felt beyond the pale here, and the Double Or Nothing bout itself is about to go down on just a few days' notice. If this was the plan, surely we could have had something earlier?

Your mileage may vary with this one, but it's a hard subjective pass from this columnist.
