8 Ups & 4 Downs From WWE Raw (28 Nov - Review)

2. Not Buying It Yet

Sorry, but the harder WWE tries to sell us on the idea that Austin Theory is the real deal, the tougher it is to buy it.

That doesn’t mean Theory isn’t talented, won’t break through and won’t get massively over if WWE continues to push him. But right now, point in time, listening to his promo on Monday night, it’s tough to grasp what they’re going for here.

Theory went from Vince McMahon’s handpicked “next big thing” to persona non grata, lost his Money in the Bank briefcase, bottomed out, won a match, snuck into a United States Championship match by attacking the champ, and then literally fell a**-backwards into the title.

He’s being booked like a chickensh** heel but cut a promo Monday night like a hard villain who beat your hero down and smiled while he did it. It doesn’t add up. It feels like WWE is trying to do several things with Austin at the same time, and it’s turning into a messy melting pot of ideas.

Maybe they’ll smooth things out and figure out where they’re going with him, but Theory just doesn’t feel like anything at the moment.
