6. Drew’s Best Wasn’t Enough

Sometimes, you can throw everything at an opponent, do nearly everything right, and it still isn’t enough to win.

That’s what happened to Drew McIntyre at SummerSlam, as Gunther absorbed everything and emerged victorious in their Intercontinental Championship match. The bout wasn’t quite as hard-hitting as the WrestleMania triple threat that involved Sheamus, but the two didn’t hold back on their chops and clotheslines.

McIntyre got increasingly desperate after Gunther kicked out of a Claymore, and went for a superplex, only to get crotched, which allowed the Ring General to splash and powerbomb him to retain the title. It was a good little bit of storytelling,
