8 Ups & 5 Downs From Impact Wrestling (Jan 7)
1. Mommy Issues
The X Division Championship rivalry between Ace Austin and Trey has, for some reason, been mostly centred around the latter's mother, as opposed to the championship. It's disappointing that the rivalry has primarily revolved around this, seeing as it's such a pointless thing to centre a rivalry around, and the fact that both men are more than capable of crafting together something really special when given the chance to do so.
While watching the video package that had been put together for their championship bout at Hard to Kill, you could see exactly why Trey is deserving of the championship opportunity. His in-ring performances, whether on his own or as part of The Rascalz, are usually some of the best in Impact, so having his mother involved in the story brings things down a level. You could certainly argue that it adds a personal sense to the rivalry, but something like this just shouldn't be the main purpose of a championship rivalry.
That fact aside, it'll no doubt be one hell of a match come 12 January.
