8 Ups & 8 Downs From Last Night's WWE SmackDown (Jun 4)

2. Imagine Not Loving This Guy

While some assumed that interest in Kofi Kingston as a top guy would taper off once the chase concluded, and he was actually holding the WWE Championship, the New Day man continues to excel in the main event spotlight.

This is a rare feat for a WWE babyface. It's happening not only through Kofi's own performances (which are excellent), but the way he is being presented. Regular title defences have made Kingston look like a fighting champion. He has only held the strap since WrestleMania, but has already fended off four unsuccessful challenges and isn't losing pointless non-title bouts either, having gone undefeated since 'The Show Of Shows.' Not only that, but he's coming off like the most likeable character in the whole company. This was reaffirmed in this week's tremendous opening diatribe and the Ghana vignette, both of which demonstrated why Kingston is WWE's most beloved male character, and someone whose main event run isn't close to running out of steam.

Isn't it nice to have a male babyface figurehead who you actually feel compelled to root for? He's a breath of fresh air.
