8 Ups And 1 Downs For WWE NXT (Feb 2)
Downs...
1. Martinez Kicks Up A Storm
Toni Storm may not have had the strongest showing in the 2021 Women's Royal Rumble, but the weekend did see official confirmation of her place in a triple threat match, involving Io Shirai and Mercedes Martinez, for the NXT Women's Championship.
Hell-bent on putting down a marker before that, Storm found herself facing off against the Robert Stone Brand's newest member Jessie Kamea. After a few decent flurries from Kamea which looked to be having an effect on the TakeOver: Vengeance Day challenger, Martinez would ultimately interrupt the match and give Kamea the DQ win.
Now the sight of Shirai perched on the top rope, watching her challengers scrap before nailing them with a typically beautiful moonsault was as fantastic as you'd expect. But, you can't help but feel like this segment could've been better implemented backstage, not leading to Storm losing a match and looking fairly weak in the process.
All in all, we still can't wait for the conclusion, but the journey hit a little speed bump last night.
