8 Ups And 12 Downs From WWE Royal Rumble 2021

8. Doing Distractions Dumbly

This is how you know WWE is on autopilot: they do the same distraction the same way repeatedly.

In recent weeks, we’ve seen Ric Flair’s entrance music hit during Charlotte Flair’s matches, leading to distractions that throw the Queen off. So during Charlotte & Asuka’s WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship title defense, Nature Boy’s music hit, causing Charlotte to stare at the entrance ramp and get rolled up for 2… because she’s learned nothing after this happening multiple times previously.

Shortly after, Lacey Evans showed up a ringside and distracted Flair, then disrupted her attempted Figure 8s, finally clocking her with a loaded Woman’s Right, which allowed Nia Jax to hit a leg drop and win the tag titles.

A couple things here: Couldn’t they just have Lacey pop up, crack Charlotte behind the ref’s back and call it a day? It would have accomplished the same thing without falling back on the same entrance music distraction they’ve done 100 times.

Also, why would Lacey, who is still allegedly in a tag team with Peyton Royce, help another team win the tag titles, when she could have saved that distraction for her and her partner? A minor quibble, but you’d think she’d want to take tag team gold off Flair for herself.
