In what was something of a running theme, or perhaps more of a statement of intent when it comes to this fresh lick of paint, last night saw many an NXT rookie test their mettle against the former black and gold brand's brightest lights.

Another example of this equation being unleashed onto those in attendance came in the form of former NXT Tag Team Champions Imperium getting their hands on Josh Briggs and Brooks Jensen. You'll remember Briggs from his brief but steady showing in the recent Breakout Tournament, while Jensen was making his official developmental bow at just 20-years of age. Jeez.

As expected, the new faces erupted at the veterans, getting their licks in and impressing in moments - with Jensen in particular nailing some impressive powerslams and a jumping back-elbow. However, unlike Knight before them, Imperium weren't here to be made to look like a pair of fools, so it was only a matter of time before their experience came good.

Sure enough, a distraction on the outside from Marcel Barthel opened the door for Fabian Aichner to hit a double-underhook suplex from the top on Jensen for the victory. But make no mistake, add these two defeated names to the ever-growing list of ones to watch on this new beginning.
