8 Ups And 3 Downs From Last Night's NXT (5 Feb)

5. Cruiserweights

Surely, surely, it's now time for the Cruiserweights to be a cemented part of TakeOver shows. Yes, we're already on 6 matches for what's classically a 5 match show, but their level of performance demands that they're not overlooked anymore. The banger at Worlds Collide showed that it belongs on the bigger stages, and Garza vs Swerve tonight only furthers that argument.

Given the opening slot on the show the two absolutely dazzled with both their invention and their athleticism. Swerve's 180 turnbuckle powerbomb (which really needs a name) feels like a move that should have been invented years ago, and the constant counters to each other's high-flying gave it a genuine edge of serious peril.

In the end, Garza prevailed and called out Devlin; the man who took his championship without ever actually beating him. Devlin, for his part, gave us a surprisingly even and engrossing match with Tyler Breeze later in the night. The two will come face to face eventually and deliver a TakeOver match, let's just hope they're given the TakeOver show on which to do it.
