When No Way Jose debuted earlier this spring, he looked like a one-note joke. That’s not to say he looked bad as a performer, but he looked to be in the same vein as Fandango and Adam Rose did when they debuted – they were mostly one-dimensional and designed only to get a reaction from fans for a few minutes, then fade into the background.

Enter Austin Aries.

Aries managed to incite Jose to the point that he began channeling a fiery spirit we hadn’t seen before. The in-match dancing and celebrating was replaced Saturday with raw aggression. This is something we never got to see from Rose or Fandango. They never got to show they were more than a one-dimensional character.

Jose hit some nice moves, including a TKO and a modified Falcon Arrow. He might have come up short at TakeOver, but at least you know there’s more to him than chanting “No Way!”
