8 Ups And 6 Downs From WWE WrestleMania 36 (Part 1)

Ups...

8. An Old-School Encounter

Cesaro Drew Gulak

WrestleMania weekend kicked off with a match between two technically proficient athletes in Drew Gulak and Cesaro. While there isn’t an active issue between them personally, their running buddies Daniel Bryan and Sami Zayn, respectively, are feuding over the Intercontinental Championship, so this made good sense.

The two had a short but energetic match, with Gulak showing fire, as if he realizes that he’s getting the best opportunity to showcase his skills in his entire time in WWE by being associated with Bryan. Gulak countered the Neutralizer multiple times and targeted Cesaro’s arm, plus scored a nifty rollup to counter the Swiss Superman’s leapfrog.

The end – with Cesaro unable to hit a Neutralizer and using a no-hands airplane spin and slam – was a bit weak, but that kind of fell in line with the match’s old-school feel.
