8 Ups And 7 Downs From WWE SummerSlam 2017

2. Baron’s Burial

John Cena Baron Corbin

Baron Corbin has had about the worst week anyone could imagine without something tragic actually happening to him personally.

The Lone Wolf was heading into SummerSlam holding the Money in the Bank briefcase and facing John Cena in what should have been a statement-making match. Instead, Corbin mouthed off to a veteran on Twitter, failed in his MITB cash-in on SmackDown and then lost to Cena in a curtain-jerking match at SummerSlam.

If WWE felt like losing the briefcase was punishment enough, Corbin could have used it as fuel to attack and maybe even topple Cena. Instead, he fell to a single Attitude Adjustment. No STF, no kickout of an AA. Hell, even Jinder Mahal kicked out of an AA.

The Twitter banter with a vet might not be the root cause of this burial, but it’s clear that WWE has lost faith in Corbin and is shunting him down the card.
