8 Ways AJ Lee Had A Huge Impact On WWE Divas Division

7. Manipulating The Men

It might seem a little sexist to include this item as a positive contribution to women€™s wrestling, but the storyline where AJ constantly made out with male wrestlers was not about her being €œloose€ with men, nor was it simply that she was €œcrazy.€ She manipulated the men on the roster to get what she wanted. Consider that AJ spent a summer toying with and tormenting Daniel Bryan, CM Punk and Kane, even pushing Bryan and Punk through a table at one point. Once she was appointed Raw GM (which came after leaving Bryan at the altar), AJ tormented Bryan for the way he treated her. She then turned to John Cena and started a relationship with him, only to shove him off a ladder and cost him a Money in the Bank ladder match with Dolph Ziggler. Then AJ lashed out at Ziggler when he blamed her for losing his World Heavyweight Championship rematch, costing him another match deliberately. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQG2o8E-zuw The fact that WWE liked to portray AJ as mentally unstable during a lot of this is unfortunate, because there was an interesting layer of a woman using her sexuality to gain influence and power and to extract revenge. That does not have to be the actions of a crazy woman. It can just be a female character not named Stephanie McMahon exerting influence over the male wrestlers. If nothing else, the positive here is that a woman can manipulate the men to get ahead.

Scott is a former journalist and longtime wrestling fan who was smart enough to abandon WCW during the Monday Night Wars the same time as the Radicalz. He fortunately became a fan in time for WrestleMania III and came back as a fan after a long high school hiatus before WM XIV. Monday nights in the Carlson household are reserved for viewing Raw -- for better or worse.
