8 Ways Dean Ambrose Will Emerge As WrestleMania 31's Biggest Star
2. Losing To John Cena
This didn't exactly do wonders for The Miz at WrestleMania 27, or Bray Wyatt earlier this year. It may sound like wishful thinking, but Ambrose could be the wrestler to break the mould and actually benefit from a loss to Cena on the biggest stage. If the WWE were to draw on elements of the legendary Bret Hart vs Steve Austin match, they could elevate Ambrose to the next stage of his career, and give Cena's character a much needed refreshment. This would require Ambrose to turn heel (or more accurately tweener, considering the large number of Cena haters), a distinct possibility given their clashes on both Raw and Smackdown last week. The parallels between the two feuds are in place, with the superior face veteran declaring that the younger, rougher star isn't anything special. We're not calling for Ambrose to bravely pass out in John's sloppy STF or anything, but a Cena win tinged with some underhanded tactics could spark fury among his detractors. The clamour for Ambrose to get his revenge would be intense, opening the door for an explosive rematch and perhaps creating a WrestleMania moment ("when Cena went bad") in the process. We already know that the WWE are not prepared to turn Cena for financial reasons, but a subtle nod to his potential dark side could gain him some considerable heat - and put over Ambrose as the man who coaxed him down from his moral perch.
