Stacy 'The Kat' Carter had absolutely no interest - or aptitude - for professional wrestling when she was drafted into WWE in 1999, but at a time when the company judged women on their aesthetics rather than ability, that barely mattered. In the company's eyes, Jerry Lawler's wife was absolutely ideal as ornamentation.

Attitude, however, was a requirement - and it turned out Carter didn't have that either. Though she was entirely professional on-screen, doing literally whatever her bosses asked of her - up to and including exposing herself on live television - The Cat's claws were constantly scratching the furniture backstage.

Allied with one of the company's most tenured employees, and having been pushed hard and fast since her arrival, Carter, like all cats, soon began acting like she owned the place. Disagreements with creative and her colleagues became a frequent source of discontent behind the scenes, as Carter seemed to think she was untouchable.

She wasn't. Just days after her involvement at No Way Out 2001, smack bang in the middle of a programme involving herself, her husband, and puritanical parody group Right To Censor, The Cat was declawed, fired from the company for her intolerable backstage behaviour. The RTC angle was dropped there and then.

Lawler followed his dismissed spouse out the door in protest. The couple parted in July 2001, and the long-time announcer, de-flead, was allowed back in.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
