8 Wrestlers Who Didn't "Earn" Their World Title Shots
4. Vince Russo - WCW Nitro 2000
There's no way to argue in favor of this one so I'm not even going to try. There are bad decisions, mistakes, and then there's outright incompetence and that's exactly what booking yourself to become the champion of the company when you're neither a wrestler nor a physical specimen of any merit is. The mad scientist that is Russo commonly defends this by saying that he didn't win it fairly but instead picked up the fluke win by accident when Goldberg speared him through the cage. That may be true, but what he fails to realize is that the logic he's using doesn't excuse the booking, it actually makes it worse. The allure to book yourself on top must be incredibly intoxicating because nearly everyone who has had that power put in their hands has done so, from Vince Russo to Eric Bischoff, Kevin Nash, Dusty Rhodes and even Vince McMahon himself. Still, this was inexcusable and just not another in a long line of misfires that took WCW from the top of the world to the TV graveyard in a few short years.
