8 Wrestlers Who Faked Their Retirement

3. The Undertaker

Not so much a fake retirement as much as a purposefully ambiguous one. When The Undertaker rather neatly performed a bit of housekeeping following his main-event defeat to Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 33, the unspoken message was that, body broken and bruised, the 52-year-old had enjoyed his last ride.

Tellingly, there was no official word on 'Taker's farewell - but no formal denial, either. WWE allowed the pot of nostalgia and loss to brew, as The Phenom sat the better part of the next year out.

John Cena was apparently too overcome with emotion following his forced engagement to know what had happened at the end of 2017's 'Mania, and began challenging The Deadman to a match. Sure enough, after weeks of badgering, Undertaker rose from the dead to obliterate John in New Orleans, subtly hitting the reset button on his career just in time for some lucrative Saudi Arabia shows. Funny, that.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
