7. Shawn Michaels Reaches For The Ropes

When Batista crushed Shawn Michaels' ambition of heading to WrestleMania XXVI for a rematch with The Undertaker at Royal Rumble 2010, the Heartbreak Kid's heartbreak was palpable as he desperately scrambled for the ropes before crashing, dreams first, to the floor.

Michaels' reaction to going over the top rope was perfectly sensible, and surely what anyone in his position would do. Except it isn't. The Showstopper grasping out for a handhold on his hopes, whilst logical, ingeniously rejected years of established Royal Rumble canon on which the WWE audience had been trained.

It was the most minute deviation to the typical visual that immediately set apart Shawn's elimination, and left fans empathising with his anguish. It's almost like he was a master at this.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
