After the closure of WCW, the WWF tried to buyout a number of the still existing contracts from the company for a much lesser price, most didn't accept and chose to sit at home still earning good money, whilst doing nothing. Buff Bagwell was one of the few who agreed to the buyout, who would then appear in a WCW Championship match on Raw on July, 2nd against Booker T. The match was nothing spectacular, fairly average, but it wasn't allowed to play out properly, as Kurt Angle and Steve Austin would assault Booker T just a few minutes in. After this match, Buff Bagwell would be released after just one televised appearance in the WWF. It's alleged that WWF management claimed there were complaints about his attitude, and he had an altercation with Shane Helms. It's also said that he faked an injury at the subsequent Smackdown taping, after taking a power bomb from the APA. Bagwell himself clearly states that he has no idea why he was fired from the WWF, to this very date. Either way, no matter what the truth is, Bagwell's WWF career started and ended in the same match, though he was never destined to go anywhere.
