8 Wrestling Gimmicks That Were Much Darker Outside WWE
3. The Bushwhackers
One singularly awful match curiously connects a clutch of men on this list, and that's Survivor Series '93's (ignoble) award-winning eight-man tag pitting Men on a Mission & The Bushwhackers against Bam Bam Bigelow, Bastion Booger & The Headshrinkers, which saw the former team all inexplicably donning the get-up of Doink. Either side of that career lowlight, The Bushwhackers also scooped the Meltzer prize for worst tag team of the year, their sardine-eating, head-licking 'comedy' from Down Under a frequent downer.
It's almost impossible to believe then, that before joining WWE, New Zealanders Luke and Butch were amongst the industry's most violent and despised tandems. They'd even shared a five-star classic with The Fantastics in the 1986 Crockett Cup, a feud that'd spill over - with much blood spilled - to a series of barbaric UWF barbed wire matches.
So the story goes, when Vince McMahon clapped eyes on the pair, he decided for no apparent reason they should become light relief, thus ensuring they'd be loathed by a certain section of the audience for an entirely different reason.
