8 Wrestling Offences You Didn't Know Could Be A Disqualification

8. Eye Poke Or Rake

Poking an opponent in the eye or raking them is an obviously illegal maneuver in the world of sports entertainment. It€™s often used by heels to get cheap heat, or even by some faces to get a quick pop from the crowd. However, did you realize that such a tactic should technically be a disqualification? Well, it should. According to the proverbial wrestling rulebook, a rake or poke to the eyes is subject to a five-count from the official. If the superstar refuses to stop, they are to be disqualified immediately. But, when have you ever seen someone DQ€™ed for attacking another wrestler€™s eyes? Never. It€™s quite logical that going for the eyes should result in a disqualification, but it€™s never enforced. Attacking an opponent€™s eyes is similar to a low blow to the groin -- both areas are quite sensitive, and relatively unprotected. While a low blow almost always results in an immediate DQ, an eye rake never does. It seems that, like all rules in professional wrestling, it€™s a matter of the referee€™s discretion.
