8 WWE Booking Steps For Goldberg After Brock Lesnar Squash
1. WrestleMania 33
Goldberg and Brock Lesnar don’t main event WrestleMania, but they do partake in one of the night’s most anticipated matches. By this point, Goldberg will have been back in the company for six months, and Lesnar’s monster aura will have been rostered. Anticipation should be through the roof by the time they hit Orlando, and the match will be as ugly as it gets.
Goldberg will have turned 50, but he’ll have had plenty of time to shake-off his ring rust by ‘Mania. Though never the greatest all-round wrestler in the world, he always brought immense intensity to his work, and should be able to go 10-15 minutes against the Beast without gassing out or hurting himself.
They’ll need to hide his weaknesses, however, and the best way to do that is by adding a no-DQ stipulation. This allows Lesnar and Goldberg to go out and have a heated, intense brawl in and outside the ring, without having to resort to rest holds and counter-grappling: a style that suits neither man.
Your winner? Brock Lesnar. There’s no acceptable option other than Lesnar avenging Survivor Series and going over clean, but it should be a tough fight. Goldberg should control significant portions of the match, and it should take at least a couple of F5’s to put him away. In the end, when Lesnar’s hand is raised, he should once again look like the scariest man in wrestling, and the most effective way to do that is by presenting Goldberg as his equal.
Lesnar walks out of WrestleMania 33 as strong as ever, and Goldberg leaves the business on his shield following one of the most gruelling matches of his career: a fitting conclusion for both men.
