8 WWE Monsters Who Had Their Push Killed By John Cena
7. Ryback
Ryback kick-started his WWE career taking out jobbers, before he quickly ascended to main event level status. However, all of his momentum evaporated when he began feuding with Cena. The Goldberg lookalike was actually a fan-favourite until he was forced to turn heel so he could face off against with the 16-time World Champion.
Unfortunately for Ryback, it was feeding time for Cena as 'The Leader of the Cenation' challenged his adversary to a Three Stages Of Hell match. Yep, that's right, not content with having beat him once, the creative team wanted Cena to score two victories over the once-unstoppable beast, and guess what — that's exactly what happened.
While Ryback won the Lumberjack Match, SuperCena would overcome the odds to best his opponent in the Tables Match and ultimately, the Ambulance Match.
Not quite finished yet, Cena was then booked to destroy any remaining momentum that Ryback may have had, as he theatrically delivered an Attitude Adjustment to his opponent through the roof of the Ambulance (because that's totally plausible), ultimately sending his main-event push to the hospital with him. Unfortunately for Ryback, it never returned, and we can all look back on this moment as yet another example of the creative team's obsession with feeding monsters to their so-called 'king of extreme'.
Ryback may not have been the world's most graceful wrestler, but had he been booked differently, he could have offered something to the company outside of the main event picture. However, after this, it was impossible to take him seriously in any role that he played.
