8 WWE Monsters Who Had Their Push Killed By John Cena

1. Rusev

Like so many promising young upstarts, Rusev impressed us all during his NXT days, and the destruction continued when he was called up to the main roster. He dominated the likes of Big Show, Mark Henry, Jack Swagger and Big E, before defeating Sheamus to win the U.S. Championship.

'The Bulgarian Brute's reign of terror eventually resulted in him crossing paths with John Cena. Though he would shock the world by defeating Cena at Fastlane (finally a monster wins in the first clash!), this progressive move was quickly undone by the fact that he would go on to lose to Cena in three consecutive PPV matches. Yes, that's right, not only did the veteran give Rusev his first loss, he then defeated him in his own speciality (a Russian Chain match) before ending the feud by defeating him one more time... in an "I Quit" match, of all things.

Rusev may not have technically been the one to quit (Lana quit on his behalf), but at this point we quit believing that he had a hope in hell of ever being taken seriously again. His undefeated streak, his title reign and his momentum all died at the hands of yet another unnecessary Cena push because, even in 2015, the creative team just couldn't get enough of their beloved SuperCena.
