Stars such as Samoa Joe and Austin Aries started out as babyfaces in NXT before turning heel because officials were aware they would be cheered upon arriving on the brand. Not Bobby Roode. There's no doubt he would have been a popular babyface at first as well, but even more so than Joe and Aries, he is such a natural heel and officials were smart to position him as an antagonist from the start of his run.

Needless to say, it worked out for the better because he went on to amazing success, including a seven month-long reign as NXT champion. His promos were on-point and he was always effective in turning the crowd against him despite his glorious entrance music.

Oddly enough, WWE had him debut as a babyface on SmackDown Live back in August, and one can only assume that was because of his theme song. Fans pop for it, but his character work has left a lot to be desired on the main roster. Now that his rivalry with Dolph Ziggler has wrapped up, it's high time he finds his footing as a heel on the blue brand.
