8 WWE Tag Team Stars Who Couldn't Cut It As Singles

2. Rick Steiner

It might seem strange to call a three-time World Television Champion and United States Champion as being a guy that couldn't cut it, but the fact is that Rick Steiner's title reigns are long forgotten, didn't make any impact at the time and that he will always - ALWAYS - be remembered for his awesome partnership with brother Scott.

The real-life badasses and amateur standouts are one of the most decorated in professional wresting history and were great workers to boot. Indeed, the Steiners were one of the best, most exciting tag teams on the planet in from the late 1980s to the early 90s, as their plethora of classics from NWA/WCW, New Japan and the WWF attest.

The two split in 1998 (it was due), with Scott going on to adapt the effective Big Poppa Pump character. Rick, on the other hand, just kind of bounced around from storyline in between spells on the sidelines with injury. His most notable contribution during the final couple of years of WCW was his bizarre interaction with psycho doll Chucky and his run of unnecessarily roughing up opponents like Konnan, Lash LeRoux and Kwee Wee.

Truth is, nobody wanted to see the slow, plodding and broken down Steiner out there by himself. They were only really interested when he was tagging with brother Scott. It's no surprise that The Dog-Faced Gremlin's star faded as the Big Bad Booty Daddy's started to shine bright.
