The man who ended Jericho's Undisputed WWF Championship reign also achieved this feat, doing so in 2002. Triple H returned from injury at the beginning of the year and went on to defeat Jericho in the main event of WrestleMania X-8. His world title reign didn't last too long however - Hulk Hogan defeated him for the title one month later at Backlash.

In October 2002 Triple H defeated Kane to win his fifth Intercontinental Championship, but that wasn't so important at the time. What mattered most was by winning the title Triple H became a double champion, and the Intercontinental Championship was retired as a result.

23 years, one month, and 92 reigns after it had been introduced, the Intercontinental Championship was deactivated. It lay dormant for six months before being reactivated by former two-time champion Stone Cold Steve Austin, with Christian becoming the first champion of the new era.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
